This song was written for the December 2008 Memorial Service sponsored by the MISS Foundation, an incredible organization that helps parents deal with the loss of a child. The JaJa's were asked to sing for the service. Honored to help celebrate the memory of these children, we accepted. We had songs selected and everything came together as planned -- until the morning of the service.
The first line came as I woke up that morning on December 14, 2008. I went downstairs, and sobbing, I told my husband "NO! I can't write this song - it's too much!". It was so hard just getting one line - I couldn't imagine singing the song at the service that night without crying. Even if I could complete it. But our angels had other ideas, and insisted on getting their messages out. I'd get a line, and then cry. Then I'd resist some more (no way can I write this song!). Then I'd get another line. And I'd cry some more. Exhausted, I finally gave up about 1:00 that afternoon, and sat down with pen and paper, and a fresh box of tissues. Then, I felt as though our angels were taking turns, and the song poured out and was done in less than an hour. We did sing the song at the memorial service that night, in a room full of angels and their families. So when I say I believe our angels helped write this song, I really mean it. I certainly couldn't have done it myself. Grace helped, too. That's the name of my own little angel. (Love you, Darlin! MWAH!) Blessings, Barb Horton, The JaJa's |

This song was given to me pretty much the way it is. Its sole purpose is to raise awareness of what it's like to be a child on the receiving end of a heavy hand and what it can do to a child's self image, so be prepared when you listen to it. There are so many other forms of abuse and neglect suffered by countless children, some of those children may be parents today. We are all voices of the children if we embrace healing and hope for families as a possible future, regardless of the past. Notes
