Special Thanks to Mike Coleman at Orangewood Recording for donating his time and the awesome sound engineering!

Special thanks to my Dad, who helped me write this song from heaven above.
Notes
This song was given to me pretty much the way it is. Its sole purpose is to raise awareness of what it's like to be a child on the receiving end of a heavy hand and what it can do to a child's self image, so be prepared when you listen to it. There are so many other forms of abuse and neglect suffered by countless children, some of those children may be parents today. We are all voices of the children if we embrace healing and hope for families as a possible future, regardless of the past.

Please know that I completely forgave my father a long time ago, and acknowledge that even as an abused child himself, he created a new hope for our family, and broke the cycle on his own. I have so many fond and precious memories of him that far outweigh the bad. From "The Tickley monster", to incredible camping and backpacking trips, hiking trips near Sedona, Arizona, silly polkas, dirtbiking, and perhaps most precious of all, the way he nurtured and encouraged my love of writing and music. So please join me in honoring his loving memory, and know that he most certainly helped me write this song from heaven with the intention of helping others break the cycle as well.
Info
This song is the theme song for the Voices of the Children project. The song is intended to raise the level of awareness of the impact of child abuse, and to create an opportunity for people to shift the drift and really make a diffence. Whether you're looking for the inspiration to take on a leadership role in the project, or wanting to make donation, you may find what you're looking for in this song. Dad's Song

When I was a young girl, I'd sit on Daddy's knee.
He taught me everything in life, was always meant to be.
Now that I'm a woman, I look up to the skies --
It took me my whole life to realize

Chorus:
Life is not a destination, it's a journey we enjoy.
There's a reason for each step we take not always full of joy.
The important thing to keep in mind each step along the way,
Don't put off until tomorrow what you should do and say today.

Even as a woman, Daddy seemed so big to me.
He's always been my hero, always took good care of me.
Feeling like a child as I say my last goodbye's
Daddy's words forever echo in my mind...

Chorus:
"Don't put off until tomorrow, what you should do and say today..."
So did I tell you Dad, that I'll love you forever and a day?
You'll always be my hero and the first man that I loved
And I pray you'll still watch over me from your new home above.

Notes
I wrote this song for my Dad in the fall of 1996, when he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. He listened to this song just about everyday as long as he was able. We grew closer during that time than we'd ever been before, and I feel truly blessed that we shared such sacred time together in his last months. If you are a woman and you have lost your Dad, my prayer is that you find comfort in this song.

Blessings,
Barb Horton
